PAINTED DOLLS
Just my type of Barbie's, dolls for the Goth fan to love. I started painting Barbie type dolls in my last year of highschool art in a sculpture we did. Initially I wanted to see if I could come up with a look for the ideal in my head for the very early, the first vampires in HS. Of course my imagination was limited to what I could find at thrift stores and what I could get to and afford. In highschool I think I explained what they represented in some elaborate fashion as my one friend later explained. She couldn't understand why I had said all that, I figure I was trying to create a picture for them. Now these dolls stand for what Barbie stands for … or at least in a Marilyn Manson kind of way. I've never idolized any one, jealous of them sure, but looked up to any one for support and try to be like them. Ugh! I doubt I can ever explain it in simple terms but I just can't stand seeing girls trying to be like Barbie. Or for that matters the Spice Girls or as I call them the Spice Sluts. They flaunt their body and shout, "Girl power!" Yeah, I might be jealous of the way they look but I'm not going to lose sleep or stop eating for that matter. Society pressure on women to be thin and shapely in the way Barbie, the way most dolls are portrayed really gets under my skin. I played with her when I was young like most kids do, but Barbie is in a way thought of a sex symbol. A Pamela Lee in plastic, little girls grow up to think that, that's how it's suppose to be. Here I am just being creative and mocking and using was the dolls shaped in, it's what material I have. Each of the dolls has their own style and design just like real females. Our own design - or own likes, hates, pleasures, measurements, favorite foods and so on.
If I piss anyone off doing this page or any of the others -- well, like dad always says, 'There's always going to be someone out there that you just aren't going to like.'
To me it's what I like Barbie type dolls to be, a Goth - tattooed, rebelling, experimenting Barbie. There's no easy way to say this, nor have it make sense. I just don't like cutesy mainstream, popular type stuff...I find it hilarious, ridiculous and weak. Let me put it this way... my younger sister went for a modeling call, and she's pretty and stuff and it's what she likes but there was just something comical in it that made me want to gag. She'll be pissed off at me for putting this up but it's my computer...my power. She got in, or an envelope and she's thrilled in all. But if she didn't get in I would have never here the end of it. At her age she can decide what she wants to do, to an extent, but I just believe you shouldn't put so much power in someone else's hands. It's hard to explain and I probably just confused you but that the reason of these dolls. If you need a reason.
A friend, Will, from college kept telling me I should do a web page of my dolls and try to sell. I didn't know for sure if he was being serious or just teasing me. A shy guy that is right into the comic book theories and drawings, he reminds me so much of my one cousin. Probably why I bugged him a lot.
